Non-World Cup players from Manchester United will begin their return to the club on Thursday, signaling the start of preparations for the upcoming campaign. In his contribution to the club's official yearbook for last season (The Official Manchester United Yearbook), manager Carrick indicated that the squad is poised to elevate their performance.

Carrick began by thanking Manchester United fans for their backing last season. "I want to sincerely thank everyone for the tremendous support you gave me last season. As a club, we moved forward together, and you played a vital role in our eventual third-place finish in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification," Carrick said. "As a Manchester United player, coach, fan, season-ticket holder, and now head coach, I fully understand the importance of the fans to this club. Since I first walked through the doors as a player 20 years ago, it has been an honor to have your support."
Carrick then emphasized the significance of taking pride in representing Manchester United. "In my first few days back at the club, along with the coaching staff, we spoke with the players. We talked about how representing Manchester United is a major opportunity, and for many, it means a great deal. Accepting the challenge of playing for this club is crucial. Not only did the players rise to that challenge, but they exceeded expectations, and we can all be proud of the progress made over the past few months."
Having played under Sir Alex Ferguson, Carrick highly values mental strength. "Whether as players, coaches, or fans, in my first two games back—against Manchester City and Arsenal—we all witnessed the unique atmosphere that Manchester United has always pursued. What pleased me most was that after that winning start, we maintained that momentum and kept improving. We showed our quality and consistency, and we found ways to win in different styles. Against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa, we displayed flowing attacking play; against Everton and Liverpool, we relied on resilience and fighting spirit."
Carrick added, "Even after securing Champions League qualification, we didn't lose our drive or focus. In the last two matches, you could see everyone's determination remained unchanged. That is exactly the motivation we need for next season. We know it won't always be smooth sailing, because the standards at Manchester United are extremely high. Such high standards are essential for a club of this size. That's why achieving success here is so rewarding. As long as we stay united, uphold our values, and perform to our level, Manchester United has a great chance of succeeding."

Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has demanded that the club win the Premier League title before its 150th anniversary in 2028. Carrick was given only a two-year contract with no renewal clause, and it is rumored that he will be dismissed if he fails to meet the championship target.
Carrick hinted that this arrangement is reasonable: "We know we must keep improving and bear a great responsibility—not only to win but also to play attractive football. That goal never changes; we should always strive for the most important trophies. There is still plenty of work to do, but we are in a very good position right now. We have a group of excellent players, and we believe they have the ability, determination, and dedication needed to succeed. They love the club, and we can feel their hunger for victory."
Carrick concluded, "We are more confident now, knowing that Manchester United is building a strong team and moving in the right direction. We have the capability to beat the strongest sides in the Premier League, and the challenge now is to maintain that level throughout the entire season and fight for every trophy we have a chance to win! I can't wait to lead the team forward next season, and I'm especially looking forward to those thrilling Champions League nights returning to Old Trafford. We are ready, and we will keep working to bring more memorable moments for Manchester United supporters."
Carrick's remarks were quite appropriate, but they were written some time ago. Given the increasing demands of European and domestic competitions, Manchester United needs more quality players. The club's progress in signing midfielders this summer has been disappointing, missing out on several top targets. Fans are frustrated, and Carrick is clearly not satisfied either.

No matter how eloquently Carrick describes the situation, nothing would give fans a stronger sense of hope for the future than Manchester United directly signing an exciting new player.
