Launching a great European club, Amorim makes a frank statement about Manchester United

At his AC Milan introduction, Ruben Amorim voiced his disappointment over missing the opportunity to bid farewell to Manchester United supporters, also acknowledging he committed several errors.

Ruben Amorim held his first press conference as head coach of AC Milan and devoted a significant portion of the time to reflecting on his unsuccessful tenure at Manchester United. The Portuguese tactician admitted he made many mistakes and expressed regret for not having the chance to thank and say goodbye to the fans of the Old Trafford club.

Amorim was officially appointed by AC Milan on a contract running until 2028, after more than six months of unemployment following his dismissal from Manchester United. The 41-year-old manager stated that his time in England provided him with many valuable lessons.

"The only thing I can say is that I learned a great deal and also made some mistakes. I didn't have the opportunity—and I'm sorry about that—to say something to the Manchester United fans at the time. I am truly proud to have been their coach for a year."

Amorim apologizes to Manchester United fans

Amorim took charge of Manchester United at the end of 2024 after Erik ten Hag was sacked, but he was unable to improve the team's performance as expected. Over 63 matches in charge, he managed only 25 victories.

In the Premier League alone, Amorim's average points-per-game rate was just 1.23—the lowest among all Manchester United managers in the Premier Leagueera. He also faced heavy criticism for stubbornly sticking with a 3-4-3 formation and failing to effectively utilize the club's young talents.

Nevertheless, the Portuguese strategist insisted that his experiences at Old Trafford would help him grow more mature in his coaching career. As he embarks on a new journey with AC Milan, Amorim displays a determined spirit.

Amorim begins a new chapter in his career with a contract extending to 2028

"Being here is an honor. I am very happy. I can feel how much everyone here loves the club. I love Milanello; it has a rich history and makes me feel at home."

"Perhaps because of the recent adventure, I am truly more eager for success. I believe in myself and especially in AC Milan. I know this is a very tough league, but I learn quickly and will try to adapt."

Amorim will replace Massimiliano Allegri on the AC Milan bench with a contract until 2028. After an unforgettable period at Manchester United, the 41-year-old manager hopes to open a more successful new chapter in his career at San Siro.
