South Korean outlets observe that the Vietnamese squad under Kim Sang-sik is actively preparing for the 2026 ASEAN Cup, after a 2-1 win against Yongin FC in their second training game in South Korea.
On July 9, Aju News published an article titled: "Kim Sang-sik's troop continues to beat Yongin FC in K-League 2... second victory during the Korea training camp."
The Korean newspaper reported that the Vietnam national team defeated Yongin FC 2-1, thereby continuing their live-testing process during the training camp in Incheon.
Coach Kim Sang-sik fielded two entirely different lineups in the first and second halves. The Korean manager gave playing time to many players while assessing tactical execution with various personnel combinations.

According to Aju News, Yongin FC started aggressively, held possession, and pressed Vietnam's defense. The K-League 2 side deployed two foreign forwards, Gabriel Tigrão and Vitinho, to intensify the pressure.
However, it was Vietnam who broke the deadlock. In the 9th minute, Nguyen Hai Long seized an opportunity inside the penalty area and struck a powerful shot to give Kim Sang-sik's side the lead.
Hai Long continued to make his mark in subsequent attacks. In the 20th minute, the midfielder dribbled down the left flank and crossed for Van Cuong to shoot, but the Yongin FC goalkeeper made a timely save.
Yongin FC equalized in the 42nd minute following a coordinated attacking move. The teams went into the break tied at 1-1.
In the second half, Coach Kim Sang-sik substituted the entire lineup to test a different group of players. Vietnam maintained their shape and searched for scoring chances.
In the 75th minute, Xuan Son leaped high to head the ball past Yongin FC's goalkeeper, scoring the decisive goal that secured a 2-1 victory for Vietnam.
Aju News assessed that the match held significant professional value beyond the result. The Vietnam coaching staff had a chance to examine the team's playing style and the chemistry among different player groups against a higher-quality opponent.
"Testing multiple tactical approaches under real match conditions allows Vietnam to accumulate more data during their preparation for the 2026 ASEAN Cup," the Korean newspaper evaluated.

Nevertheless, South Korean media also cautioned that it is too early to become optimistic after the win against Yongin FC. This club currently sits 12th in K-League 2 with 16 points.
Accordingly, the match against Gangwon FC on July 13 will be a more significant test for Coach Kim Sang-sik and his players. Gangwon FC is currently third in K-League 1 with 27 points and is regarded as a strong opponent.
"This match is considered the toughest benchmark for Vietnam to gauge its current level ahead of the 2026 ASEAN Cup," Aju News wrote.
The Vietnam team will continue training in Incheon before facing Gangwon FC in their final friendly on July 13. After concluding the training camp in South Korea, Coach Kim Sang-sik and his players will return home and begin preparations for the friendly against Myanmar and the 2026 ASEAN Cup.
