Speaking after the 1-2 defeat to England in the match played on the morning of July 12 in Miami, USA, Haaland said what he is most proud of is not his goals or personal achievements, but that Norway has established its place on the world football map.

According to the 25-year-old striker, the World Cup performance will further motivate young players back home to pursue their dreams of wearing the national team jersey and competing on big stages. Haaland said: "What touches me the most is the way we put Norway back on the world football map. Hopefully, from now on, Norway can regularly qualify for World Cups and European Championships. That will inspire young players that they can shine on the big stage in a Norway shirt."

Returning to the World Cup after 28 years, Norway surprised everyone by reaching the quarterfinals. The Nordic side eliminated Brazil in the round of 16, with Haaland scoring a brace to defeat the most successful team in World Cup history.

The Manchester City striker also had an impressive tournament, scoring seven goals in five matches, before being "silent" for the first time in the national team after a streak of 15 consecutive games with a goal. In the match against England, Haaland failed to score and had to leave the pitch during extra time due to exhaustion in the hot Miami weather. Coach Stale Solbakken revealed that his player was nearly out of energy after a series of intense matches and also had a leg issue after a collision in the second half. The Norwegian tactician said: "Erling did everything he could. He scored seven goals in five matches and had a wonderful World Cup. I should have substituted him earlier because he was exhausted."

Not only did he make an impact on the pitch, but Haaland also became one of the most beloved figures among American fans due to his approachable style and humorous personality off the field.

The striker admitted that the six-week journey at the 2026 World Cup was like an "emotional roller coaster," and he believes the recent success will have a long-lasting impact on Norwegian football. He shared: "I think this World Cup changed Norway and also changed me. We are building something very special. The most important thing now is to maintain that momentum, because we have proven that Norway can become one of the world's top football nations."

Although the World Cup dream has ended, the performance of Haaland and his teammates is still regarded as a significant milestone, opening up many expectations for Norway to become a regular presence at major tournaments in the future.
