The 2026 ASEAN Cup features 10 regional football teams, including Vietnam as the reigning champion.
The 2026 ASEAN Cup once again gathers familiar faces of regional football: Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and East Timor.
Among them, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Vietnam have all participated in all 16 editions, reflecting the stable standing of these traditionally strong football nations. The Philippines is making its 15th appearance, Laos also enters its 15th ASEAN Cup, while Cambodia is taking part for the 11th time. East Timor is the least experienced team, with its fifth appearance.

In terms of achievements, Thailand remains the most successful team in tournament history with 7 championships. Singapore follows closely with 4 titles, while Vietnam has won three times (2008, 2018, and 2024) and enters this year's tournament aiming to successfully defend its crown.
Malaysia won the title once in 2010, while Indonesia remains the unluckiest team in finals, having been runners-up six times without ever claiming the top spot. The Philippines has reached the semifinals on multiple occasions, and Myanmar has made it to the semifinals and finished fourth. For Cambodia, Laos, and East Timor, advancing past the group stage is still the milestone they are striving for.
According to the draw results, Group A brings together defending champion Vietnam along with Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and East Timor. Meanwhile, Group B features Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos.
Under the tournament format, the top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals, where they play cross-group matches over two legs. The winners of the semifinals qualify for the final, which also consists of two legs to determine the champion.
