The Vietnam national team has maintained positive results during their training camp in South Korea. In their first friendly, coach Kim Sang Sik's side easily defeated Siheung FC 6-0. Then, against tougher opposition, Vietnam beat Yongin FC, a K-League 2 team, 2-1.
The biggest challenge will come in the final match against Gangwon FC, a K-League 1 side. This is seen as a crucial test before Vietnam concludes their training camp. However, Gangwon FC may not field their strongest lineup, as they just played a tense 0-0 draw against league leaders FC Seoul on the afternoon of July 12.
Still, Gangwon FC's reserve squad features several quality players. Notable names include defensive midfielder Kim Dong Hyun, a former South Korean international; striker Kim Gun Hee, who stands nearly 1.90m tall; South Korean U20 goalkeeper Kim Jung Hoon; and young center-back Jung Seung Bin, who is nearly 2m tall. These are suitable opponents for Vietnam to test their physicality and aerial ability.
Facing a physically imposing, fast, and well-conditioned opponent, head coach Kim Sang Sik is likely to field his strongest starting eleven for the first time. Vietnam's attack is expected to create fewer chances than in the previous two matches, while the defense will face greater pressure. The clash with Gangwon FC thus serves as an important dress rehearsal for the entire team.
