Manchester United severs all ties with Greenwood for a multi-million fee, learning from the lesson; Carrick refrains from promoting the "little Messi" for now.

Fenerbahce of the Turkish Super Lig officially confirmed this week that they have acquired Mason Greenwood from French side Olympique de Marseille for €39 million, with the fee to be settled in three annual payments. The 24-year-old has committed to a four-year deal with the Turkish club, bringing his association with Manchester United to a complete close.

According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, based on the agreement between Manchester United and Marseille, the Red Devils are entitled to a €15.6 million sell-on clause. However, since Getafe, where Greenwood was previously on loan in La Liga, also negotiated a share, they will receive €3.12 million. This means United's actual net income from the deal is €12.48 million (approximately £10 million).

Manchester United waived their right of first refusal in favor of a sell-on clause. Now that Greenwood has joined Fenerbahce, all ties between him and the club are severed. If he transfers again in the future, United will only receive a modest youth compensation fee as a token of his early development at the club.

At the last moment, Greenwood also received an offer from the Saudi Professional League, with Al-Ahli attempting to hijack the deal by offering an annual salary of €12 million. However, the 24-year-old is not yet ready to move to the Middle East for a payday, rejecting the petrodollar lure.

Nevertheless, the fact that Greenwood, who turns 25 in October, is now playing in the Turkish Super Lig still leads fans to lament his wasted potential. This is not primarily due to a lack of ability, but rather to his character flaws and off-field indiscretions. After rising to fame at a young age at Manchester United, he clearly lost himself in the trappings of fame and wealth.

Following his England national team debut, he was expelled for bringing an Icelandic girl back to his hotel against team rules. Later, a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend completely destroyed his standing in English football, forcing him to seek opportunities at a mid-to-lower-tier La Liga club. After finally securing a move to Ligue 1, he clashed with the coach and management, leaving him no choice but to head to Turkey.

Greenwood is not the first Manchester United academy product to face such issues. This serves as a reminder to the Red Devils, who have always prided themselves on youth development, that they must not only focus on players' talent but also provide proper cultural education and avoid granting them premature access to the material benefits of fame and fortune.

Currently, the next academy "crown prince" that Manchester United fans are hoping for is 15-year-old JJ Gabriel. Many expect him to appear in the first-team pre-season friendlies this summer and make his senior debut next season.

However, Carrick appears unwilling to rush things. This week, nine Manchester United academy players joined the first team for training ahead of Saturday's friendly against Wrexham, but Gabriel was not among them.

The young Red Devils who participated in the training session included Chido Obi, Jim Sweerts, Ethan Williams, Jacob Devaney, Dan Gore, Ethan Wheatley, Jaydan Kamason, Tyler Fletcher, and Daniel Armer.

Young players who have been consistently training with the first team include Tyler Fredricson, Jack Fletcher, Shea Lacey, Radek Vitek, and Harry Amas. Gabriel, nicknamed "Kid Messi," appears to have been kept with the youth team to prepare for the new season rather than joining Carrick's senior squad. According to reports, while the club holds him in high regard, they do not want him to be overhyped or pushed too fast.

Manchester United's £50 million first signing, Andre Santos, has already joined Carrick's training sessions. He will have the opportunity to make his debut in the team's first pre-season friendly at 23:00 on Saturday, which will be held at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, which has a capacity of 70,000.
