Controversy? Three Premier League giants congratulate Argentina on reaching the final! Chelsea celebrates Enzo's goal, only to face backlash

In the second semifinal of the World Cup, which ended on July 16 Beijing time, England let a favorable situation slip away. Having opened the scoring, they allowed two consecutive goals and were defeated by defending champions Argentina, failing to reach the final for the first time in six decades.

What is both ironic and humorous is that after the match, two Premier League clubs, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, both took to their official accounts to congratulate their own players—Martínez and Romero—on advancing to the World Cup final.

Meanwhile, another Premier League giant, Chelsea, excitedly posted on social media to celebrate after Enzo Fernández scored in the 85th minute, helping Argentina equalize. Following England's elimination, Chelsea deleted the post, likely because many fans expressed anger in the comments.

Although it is normally perfectly acceptable for Villa, Chelsea, and Tottenham to congratulate their players, considering that Argentina eliminated England—and that Tottenham, Chelsea, and Villa are all English league teams—this move was clearly somewhat inappropriate.

As expected, the social media comment sections of the three Premier League clubs were flooded by local fans, who criticized them harshly: "Why post this now?"; "Delete it immediately!"; "What are you doing?"

It is worth noting that Liverpool and Manchester United also have Argentine players on their rosters. Lisandro Martínez and Alexis Mac Allister both performed well in the match where Argentina eliminated England. However, as of now, neither Manchester United nor Liverpool has posted any congratulations to their Argentine internationals.
