In the first 45 minutes, both teams started cautiously, with intense battles in midfield. During the first half, the two sides managed only three shots combined, none of which were on target.

At the start of the second half, Argentina unexpectedly increased their pace and created several notable chances, including two consecutive shots from Julian Alvarez and a long-range effort from Leandro Paredes. However, it was England who took the lead with a textbook counterattack initiated by captain Harry Kane. Midfielder Morgan Rogers delivered a precise cross for winger Anthony Gordon, who, after cleverly positioning himself, rushed in to score from close range in the 55th minute.

Argentina made several substitutions and stepped up their attack in search of an equalizer. The "Tango" team's offensive plays were highly varied, even using many aerial balls, which were traditionally considered an English strength. After outstanding saves by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, and even a header from Alexis Mac Allister that hit the post, Argentina's relentless efforts were rewarded in the 85th minute with a beautiful long-range goal from Enzo Fernandez, following a gentle lay-off by captain Lionel Messi.

Buoyed by the equalizer, Argentina continued to attack while England—having lost their rhythm by dropping deep to protect a fragile lead too early—repeatedly left deadly gaps in their defense. Just after Mac Allister hit the post for the second time in the match, Lionel Messi delivered a perfectly weighted cross with his weaker right foot for substitute forward Lautaro Martinez, who nodded in unmarked to seal a 2-1 victory in the second minute of stoppage time.

In the remaining nearly 10 minutes of stoppage time, England brought on two forwards for two defenders but failed to create any real dangerous chances, once again falling short of their 60-year World Cup dream.

Thus, England will face France in the bronze medal match on July 19 (Vietnam time), while the final will be a highly anticipated clash between the "possession king" Spain and the "comeback record holder" Argentina.
