Former national team player helps his team win the 2026 Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Championship

Former national team player Nguyen Viet Phong continued to prove his caliber as a veteran of professional football, guiding his side, the Vietnam Bank Trade Union, to victory in the 2026 Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Championship.

On the afternoon of July 19, at Ton Duc Thang University Stadium (Ho Chi Minh City), the Vietnam Bank Trade Union defeated the Petrovietnam Trade Union 1-0 in the final to claim the national championship.

This is a well-deserved reward following a convincing campaign by the banking sector's representative, a team considered the most stable and mentally strong in the tournament.

In that success,Viet Phongwas a notable name. The former Vietnam national team striker, who spent many years battling in the V-League, despite no longer playing professionally, still maintained impressive fitness, technique, and tactical thinking, becoming a true leader on the pitch.

Not only shining in the national finals, Viet Phong also played a major role in helpingthe Vietnam Bank Trade Unionwin the Northern regional title to qualify for the finals. Entering the tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, his team continued to show overwhelming strength and completed the journey with the championship after the final against the Petrovietnam Trade Union.

Experts rated Viet Phong as a high-class player in the Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Championship. His experience in top-level football allowed the former national team player to inspire his teammates. His presence helped raise the professional quality and also created great appeal for the tournament.

The 2026 Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Championshipwas organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Tuoi Tre Newspaper, with professional support from the Vietnam Football Federation. After nearly two months of competition, 48 teams across the country played over 100 matches, scoring more than 650 goals before the champion was crowned.

The national finals featured 16 top teams, held from July 16 to 19 in Ho Chi Minh City, with total prizes worth up to 560 million VND. Besides the championship of the Vietnam Bank Trade Union, the Petrovietnam Trade Union took the runner-up spot, the Dong Nai 4 Trade Union placed third, while Sacombank finished fourth.
