Vietnamese-Belgian player sends a strange signal, is V.League about to welcome a new recruit?

Lenn-Minh Tran suddenly leaves MVV Maastricht, paving the way for a potential move back to V.League following a standout campaign featuring 32 games in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

Lenn-Minh Tran hinted at his future by posting a farewell message to MVV Maastricht on his personal Instagram. This move comes as the 19-year-old defender is linked with a club in V.League, significantly increasing the likelihood of him returning to play in Vietnam.

Below the post, a fan group of MVV Maastricht also sent congratulations to the Vietnamese-origin player as he heads back to his homeland. This detail is seen as a stronger signal of returning to V.League than a typical goodbye, although the identity of the new club and the transfer terms have not yet been disclosed.

Earlier, some transfer sources in Vietnam reported that an unnamed V.League club had contacted MVV to discuss Lenn-Minh Tran. The player's proactive decision to end his journey at Maastricht further reinforces the likelihood that negotiations have advanced. However, as of now, no party has confirmed the next destination for the defender born in 2007.

If the deal is completed as a permanent transfer, the Vietnamese club will have to negotiate directly with MVV Maastricht over the transfer fee. Lenn-Minh Tran is not a free agent because his contract remains valid until June 30, 2028. A loan move or an early contract termination could still happen, but both require the agreement of the Dutch club.

The interest in Lenn-Minh Tran is not solely based on his Vietnamese heritage. In the 2025/26 season, he made 32 appearances in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football. Among those, the 19-year-old started 27 matches, played 2,370 minutes, and contributed one assist. This is a significant amount of playing time for a defender who just completed his first professional season.

Lenn-Minh Tran developed through the KRC Genk academy before moving to MVV in the summer of 2025. His primary position is right-back, and he can also play as a right midfielder. When offering the young player a three-year contract, technical director Ronny van Geneugden once said: "Lenn-Minh could become the right-back of the future at MVV. He is strong in defense, capable of pushing forward, and plays the ball well. He earned this contract himself; now it's time to continue his development momentum."

The defender, born in Belgium, has a Vietnamese father and has represented Belgium's youth teams from U16 to U19. The player's family has also expressed a desire for him to have the opportunity to contribute to Vietnamese football. Therefore, returning to V.League is not just a notable transfer but could also open a new path regarding nationality and the Vietnamese national teams.

After his farewell to MVV Maastricht, the biggest question now is no longer whether Lenn-Minh Tran will leave the Netherlands, but which club in Vietnam will be determined enough to complete the deal and give him a role matching the foundation he has built in Europe.
