Former V.League champion recruits top scorer of Indonesia's new champion

Hanoi FC is preparing to sign Andrew Jung, a French forward who recently became champion in Indonesia and netted 16 times for Persib Bandung, on a two-year contract.

A transfer source from France reports that Hanoi FC is about to finalize an agreement to bring in striker Andrew Jung from Persib Bandung. Journalist Sébastien Denis of Foot Mercato reveals that the 28-year-old forward is set to sign a two-season deal with the capital club.

Earlier, Foot Mercato reported that the management of Hanoi FC and Persib had nearly reached full agreement on all terms of the transfer. By July 6, Persib confirmed the sale of Andrew Jung after receiving a high-value offer, despite his contract running until May 2027. The Indonesian club did not disclose the identity of the new destination or the specific transfer fee.

Persib's deputy general director, Adhitia Putra Herawan, stated: “The club that wants Andrew Jung submitted an offer with a very high transfer fee. In professional football, such situations are normal when a player maintains consistent performance and his market value keeps rising.”

He also emphasized that selling the French striker was not purely a financial decision: “This decision is not based solely on money. We had comprehensive discussions with the management and coaching staff to ensure the choice truly suits the team’s needs and the future squad-building direction.”

Andrew Jung leaves Persib after a remarkably successful season. The 1.92-meter-tall striker scored 16 goals and provided 2 assists in 33 matches, becoming the team's top scorer across all competitions. Four of those goals came in the AFC Champions League Two, while his contributions in the domestic league helped Persib win the Indonesian championship for the 2025/26 season.

Born in 1997 in Remiremont, Jung developed through the French football system and has played for Reims, Châteauroux, Nancy, Quevilly-Rouen, and Valenciennes. His most notable achievement at home was the 2020/21 season, when he scored 21 goals for Quevilly-Rouen and won the Championnat National top scorer title. Before moving to Indonesia, he also played in Belgium for Oostende and in Greece for OFI Crete.

If the deal is announced by Hanoi FC, Jung will bring a powerful center-forward style that the capital club has been lacking: able to serve as a target man, battle in the box, and convert crosses into goals. His experience in multiple environments also reduces the risk of adapting to the V.League.

Hanoi FC just finished the 2025/26 season in fourth place, scoring 48 goals but unable to keep up with the title race. The arrival of a striker who led the scoring charts for the Indonesian champion could therefore signal a stronger rebuild at Hang Day Stadium. What remains now is the timing of the capital club officially opening the door to welcome Andrew Jung.
