Vietnam's national football team maintains its place in the FIFA top 100 ahead of the 2026 ASEAN Cup

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has just released its July 2026 rankings. The Vietnamese team continues to hold the 99th position in the world, thereby maintaining its presence in the top 100 after returning to this group in the late March update.

Since they did not play during the FIFA Days in June, Coach Kim Sang Sik's squad experienced no change in points or ranking. Holding on to the 99th spot allows Vietnam to remain among the top 20 strongest teams in Asia and maintain its leading position in the Southeast Asian region.

The current ranking also provides a favorable foundation for the Vietnamese team to aim for important goals in the latter half of the year, starting with the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup. As the defending champions, Coach Kim Sang Sik's squad is placed in Group A alongside Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, and the winner of the playoff between Timor-Leste and Brunei.

According to the schedule, the Vietnamese team will kick off their campaign with an away match against Timor-Leste at the Chonburi Stadium.

After that, the team will host Singapore at home on July 30, travel to face Indonesia on August 3, and conclude the group stage with a home match against Cambodia on August 7. Vietnam's goal is to defend the title they won in the most recent edition, while also accumulating points to improve their position on the FIFA rankings.

The FIFA rankings will also be significant for the Vietnamese team as they prepare for upcoming matches in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, as well as for seeding in future international tournaments.

Maintaining a position in the top 100 will give the team a certain advantage in draws and further demonstrate their stability under Coach Kim Sang Sik.
