According to a TTXVN correspondent in Argentina, the private jet carrying the 39-year-old superstar landed at Rosario International Airport early on July 21 (local time), drawing a large crowd of fans despite the cold weather and heavy rain. This return also marked the first time the Argentine captain appeared in his homeland since the team finished as runners-up at the 2026 World Cup. Messi was escorted by tight security throughout his departure from the airport to ensure safety and prevent the crowd from approaching.

After the 2026 World Cup final, Messi did not return to Argentina immediately but stayed in the United States for some time before flying from New York to Miami and then continuing his journey to Rosario. He is expected to rest at his family home in the Funes area, on the outskirts of Rosario, before rejoining Inter Miami to prepare for the next phase of the season.

At the 2026 World Cup, Argentina finished their campaign as runners-up after a 0-1 defeat to Spain in the final at MetLife Stadium (USA). Following the match, Messi expressed on social media his deep disappointment at failing to retain the championship trophy, but emphasized his pride in the team's fighting spirit.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner stated that Argentina overcame numerous challenges to reach the final and continued to affirm their position among the world's strongest teams. The Argentine captain also thanked the fans for their support throughout the tournament, while congratulating Spain on winning the championship.
