Garnacho passes medical for Villa move, Man Utd's future cut revealed! Not enough for Rashford's weekly wage

Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has confirmed his move to Aston Villa, initially on a season-long loan with a mandatory buyout clause. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Garnacho has passed his medical and is in Birmingham completing the final formalities of the transfer. This means the 22-year-old Argentina international's career at Stamford Bridge ends after just one year. He made 43 appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 4 assists, a performance that failed to win over the fans.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the deal with his "here we go!" statement, while the London Evening Standard revealed that Garnacho's buyout clause is not guaranteed to be triggered but is very easy to achieve, cleverly circumventing UEFA's regulations.

According to UEFA rules, if the conditions of a mandatory buyout clause are certain to be met, it will be considered a permanent transfer. Since Chelsea just signed Morgan Rogers from Villa for £117 million, and the two transactions are not separated by 45 days, if Garnacho is deemed a permanent transfer, Villa's financial income would decrease, and Chelsea would have to immediately bear Garnacho's transfer fee.

Therefore, Villa and Chelsea agreed that Garnacho's buyout condition is linked to his number of appearances for Villa. In this way, UEFA cannot determine that the young Argentine will definitely reach that appearance count, allowing both clubs to achieve their financial stability goals. Manchester United is familiar with such conditions; Casemiro's original contract stipulated that if he made 35 starts in all competitions in the 2025/26 season, his contract would automatically extend by one year until 2027, but that condition was never activated.

Romano said that Garnacho's permanent move to Villa next year is a certainty, and he has even signed a four-year contract, not just a simple season-long loan. "Exclusive story about Garnacho and Villa: the mandatory buyout clause is considered very easy to trigger, almost a done deal," Romano said. "Chelsea expects it to become a permanent transfer in 2027, and Garnacho also signed a four-year contract before the move."

Villa's pursuit of Garnacho was led by manager Unai Emery, who had been interested in him last summer when Garnacho was still at Manchester United. However, due to Villa missing out on the Champions League, Garnacho chose Chelsea. That amount is not enough to cover the weekly wage of Garnacho's senior teammate Rashford, who earns £325,000 per week.
