Nguyễn Hoàng Đức, the vice-captain midfielder, is eager to score plenty of goals against Timor Leste together with the Vietnamese side, thus ensuring a favorable beginning in the 2026 Asean Cup.
"The first match always brings certain difficulties. However, the whole team has prepared very thoroughly. We are very excited and ready to give our best. The goal of the Vietnam national team is to create many dangerous opportunities, score many goals, and bring an exciting match to the fans," Hoàng Đức shared at the pre-match press conference.
According to the Vietnam national team midfielder, the long training camp in South Korea has brought significant professional value, as the entire team trained at high intensity and learned new coaching methods under the guidance of head coach Kim Sang Sik.

"Coach Kim Sang Sik always applies different training plans to help players quickly adapt and build cohesion within the team. In particular, this year's Vietnam national team includes many players attending the ASEAN Cup for the first time, along with naturalized players, creating positive competition in every position.
I believe that, compared to two years ago, this Vietnam team will perform better and deliver quality matches to the fans," Hoàng Đức emphasized.
The Vietnam national team will face Timor Leste at 20:30 on July 24 at Chonburi Stadium (Thailand) in the opening match of Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Cup.
The Vietnam national team is ranked 99th in FIFA, 102 places above Timor Leste. Coach Kim Sang Sik's squad is rated much higher due to player quality and the statistic of three Southeast Asian championships. In contrast, Timor Leste has been eliminated in the group stage in all four appearances in the tournament.
