Once a teammate of Wu Lei! 33-year-old Spanish striker slaps Argentine center-back in World Cup final, faces possible disciplinary action

Despite the World Cup final being over for more than four days, fresh details of the post-match scuffle keep surfacing online. A video shared on July 24 shows Spanish striker Iglesias slapping Argentine defender Romero during the confrontation.

In the early hours of the 20th, Spain claimed a 1-0 victory over Argentina to lift the World Cup trophy. After the match, players from both teams engaged in a brawl.

The entire conflict was triggered by Argentine right-back Nahuel Molina, who first struck Rodri while he was celebrating, followed by Leandro Paredes putting Garcia in a chokehold and violently body-slamming Gavi, causing the situation to spiral completely out of control.

However, the latest footage reveals that Spanish players also displayed aggressive behavior. During the mass melee, 33-year-old substitute forward Iglesias openly slapped Cristian Romero, an Argentine starting center-back who had stepped in to mediate. After being hit, Romero angrily shoved Iglesias in retaliation.

Public opinion initially largely blamed the Argentine players for losing their composure after defeat, but this footage of the slap shows that Spanish substitutes also committed violent acts.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has now obtained all the on-site video evidence. Iglesias is likely to face an additional suspension from international competitions.

Born on January 17, 1993, Iglesias played alongside Wu Lei at Espanyol for half a season, forming a well-coordinated forward partnership that helped the team qualify for the Europa League that season.

Currently, the 33-year-old Iglesias has only made two appearances for the national team. In this World Cup, he played just one minute as a substitute in the match against Portugal.
