Coach Kim Sang Sik asserted that the Vietnam team had made meticulous preparations for the Asean Cup 2026 opener, and the 7-0 victory was a fitting reward for what the players had shown on the pitch.

Man of the match Nguyen Dinh Bac shared: "The entire team had a very good month of preparation, and today's victory is the result of that effort.

The Vietnam national team defeated Timor Leste 7-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Dinh Bac, a brace from Hoang Hen, a goal from Xuan Son, and another goal from captain Quang Hai. This gave them a favorable start on their journey to defend the Asean Cup title.

Meanwhile, Timor Leste head coach Jose Pedro admitted: "We faced a very strong opponent with quality players. We made some mistakes and had to accept defeat. This was a very good performance by the Vietnam team.

We conceded very early. We are a young team, so we need to continue working hard to develop and learn more. The players made some mistakes in the midfield area, which made the match very difficult.

Even before the kick-off, we knew this would be a huge challenge. Facing a strong team like Vietnam is never easy. They showed respect for us by not resting their key players. So, this was truly a very tough match.

The most important thing now is to forget the recent result and help the players recover well. I will try to select the best 11 players for the upcoming match against Singapore."
