Cristiano Ronaldo scored in Portugal's 5-2 win over Denmark in the quarter-finals of the Nations League, but it was substitute Francisco Trincão who equalised late in regulation time and scored first in extra-time to seal the victory. After the game, the winger was included in Manchester United's transfer list.
Manchester United will purge Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho in the summer window, and Garnacho can be sold at the right price, so Ruben Amorim wants to bring in new wingers. His first-choice Giovanni Kunda opted for Chelsea, with Trincon likely to fill in, with the 25-year-old Portugal international priced at £35million.
Trincon was transferred to Lisbon during the Manchester United coach coaching Sporting Portugal, he played for the giant Barcelona, and the contract was as high as 400 million pounds, but he failed to play at a high level, and the Wolves who were loaned to the Premier League could not succeed, only participated in 4 goals in 30 games, and was once recognized as a big parallel product.
But after a €7 million move to Sporting de Portugal, Amorim saved him, giving him regular minutes and his career taking off. Trincon is usually a left-footed right winger, but he can play on both flanks and sometimes in the middle.
Trincon has also been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle United, while Barcelona have a £20million buy-back clause, and Amorim is hoping to use his charisma to convince the former club to join Manchester United.
The 40-year-old Portuguese coach doesn't like traditional wingers, players like Garnacho don't meet his tactical needs, and Amorim wants a well-rounded wide player.
Referring to the 'winger' standard in his system, Amorim said: "We have to have a wide player like Diogu Darlow who can play on both sides, it's really important, sometimes you need to cut inside with your left foot on the right and attack in a different way, sometimes you need to attack with your right foot and pass the ball more down.
At the moment, Manchester United only have one winger, Amad Diallo, to satisfy Amorim. After Mr. 40 million was injured in training last month, there are no other wingers to choose from. Ahmad, who scored nine goals, was supposed to be out for the season, but Amorim recently revealed that he could return in May.
This week, the 22-year-old revealed his injury and hinted that he could indeed return this season. Ahmad can play as a number 10 in the 343 squad and drop back to play as a right wing-back, something Garnacho can't do. With Kunda missing out, and rumours that Amorim may consider immobilizing Ahmad at wing-back next season, it makes sense to bring in right winger Trincon.
Sporting Portugal centre-forward Djekereish is also rumoured to be a target for Manchester United, but if Amorim is unable to lead his side to Champions League qualification, bringing in the 26-year-old Swedish striker has no chance. Nottingham Forest, who are expected to finish in the top four of the Premier League, have recently been rumoured to be in contention for Djekereish, who has a transfer fee of around €70 million. But Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg has stressed he doesn't like the forest.
Plettenberg explained: "Djekereish could leave Sporting for between €60 million and €70 million in the summer window, which is a verbal agreement between him and the club. But one thing is for sure, he won't move to Nottingham Forest."
The other Portuguese player linked with United is centre-back Ousmane Diomande, but it remains to be seen whether there will be a move from Amorim's line to Old Trafford.
