Manchester United was beaten 2-2 by the whistle! Mouth cannon Onana buried Amorim for a good substitution, and there is still a lot of hope of reaching the top four

The first leg of Manchester United's Europa League quarter-final at Lyon was a tumultuous first leg with both teams equalising in stoppage time in both halves before a 2-2 draw before a do-or-die clash at Old Trafford next week to determine who would progress to the last four. Andre Onana was booed by the French fans in a pre-match exchange with Nemanja Matic, who was smiling and smiling before kick-off as he checked the goal.

The last time the two teams met in a competitive match, Lyon were back-to-back Ligue 1 champions, while Manchester United dominated the Premier League and were on the verge of becoming Champions League winners that season. But when they met, they both fell from the Champions League to the Europa League, and Onana had no point in arguing with Nemanja Matic before the game about who was strong and who was weak, but he stole the limelight of the game. The broadcasters equipped the players with special cameras to track before the game, but Matic did not appear as a substitute and did not intersect with Onana, who is about to continue the "soap opera" on his own.

Ruben Amorim was in charge for six months and the attack was organised, however, scoring goals was still difficult. In the 18th minute, Patrick Dolgu crossed in an inverted triangle, and Hojlund's "shot" was so weak that he didn't even have enough motivation to roll off the line.

The £72 million centre-forward, who has scored just one goal in his last 27 games, couldn't even see Ugarte at the back, reminding him to make sure he had his shot on target first during the break! Captain Bruno Fernandes exemplified the action by taking a shot from a similar situation but the ball was blocked by a defender and went high.

The midfield could not take advantage of the opportunity, and "Mouth Cannon" Onana took the opportunity to become the protagonist. Lyon's free-kick from the left side of the pitch was met by Thiago Almeida, but the United goalkeeper didn't seem to anticipate that no one in front of goal had touched the ball, and his save was too slow to bounce off the ground and go straight into the net to give Lyon a 1-0 lead.

The pundits can't wait to put together the stats, and it was Onana's eighth mistake so far last season that led directly to a goal conceded in all competitions, the highest among any Premier League club. But they may be in a bit of a hurry, as the 29-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper's "showtime" is far from over......

Back in the first half, United were not discouraged by Onana's problems, and in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time, B Fee returned the color through a free kick, Lyon goalkeeper Perry saved the ball, but 19-year-old centre-back Lenny Yoro, who is familiar with Ligue 1, headed in a header to make it a 1-1 draw. Yoro didn't celebrate his Reds debut so much, roaring a few times before running back. Speaking after the game, he explained that it was because there was no time to celebrate when they wanted to win, and that spirit was in line with what United fans expect from their players.

The half-time draw changed the momentum of both teams, and United dominated the second half, when Joro rushed forward to shoot from distance. Amorim made a change to replace Garnacho, who had always struggled to make decisions, another Academy star Kobe Mayno returned from injury, and Zilkze replaced the inactive Hojlund. Both substitutions were successful and could have given the Red Devils a chance to win.

In the 88th minute, Meno and B Fei completed a wonderful combination, the Portuguese iron man crossed from the right, Zirkze nodded the ball into the net, and Manchester United overtook the score 2-1. The Netherlands international celebrated with a close-range shot, which he, his team-mates and the fans alike thought was the winning goal and the Reds were in sight.

There were also Manchester United players who came to Fernandes to celebrate, with the Portuguese midfielder's assist being his 12th in the Europa League knockout round, breaking the record held by his friend Juan Mata. He also set his own record for goals scored in the Europa League and knockout rounds to 42 and 17 respectively.

The barrier between United and Victory was called Onana, and in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, Lyon attacked the penalty area, Almeida got up from close range and the ball was powerful, but the angle was right on the Red Devils goalkeeper, who broke away decisively and stood still, Lyon's number one star Layan Shcherki scored with a deft follow-up shot to make it 2-2 for Lyon.

Onana raised his hand to signal that the opponent was offside, but the referee ignored his vexatious play. Opta data suggests Onana may not be United's worst goalkeeper, but the second-worst. Since 2003/04, he has kept the second-lowest clean sheets and saved the second lowest of any Red Devils goalkeeper who has played more than 900 minutes. Onana has conceded 99 goals in 69 Premier League games, made 70.1 per cent saves, kept 18 clean sheets and kept 26.1 per cent of the sheets, with only Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard worse than him.

Onana put his head in his hands and some of his United team-mates offered words of comfort, but no one hugged him and everyone seemed reluctant to do so. Perhaps they remember that when they exited the Champions League group stage last season, Onana's amateur mistake was the culprit. He said before the game that United were much better than Lyon, and perhaps it was true, and if the goalkeeper wasn't him, the team might have returned to the Theatre of Dreams with a clear advantage for the second leg.

Manchester United's chances of progressing to the semi-finals next week remain high, with a home draw against Real Sociedad in La Liga. The opponent Leon has drawn the first leg of the last nine European European knockout rounds, and finally all of them are out. 'We are really disappointed,' said boss Amorim after the game, 'and Manchester United should have had a one-goal advantage, but the next leg is at home and we will try to win this game.'

Speaking about Onana's mistake, Amorim certainly couldn't say clearly: "Focus on the next game is key, we have to play a Premier League game [against Newcastle United] first and then think about the second leg against Lyon. When a player makes a mistake, every player goes through it, so we just have to keep looking forward."

Of course, every player will inevitably make mistakes, but there is a difference in the turnover rate. Amorim is rumoured to want to bring in a new goalkeeper in the summer, and it would be a big mistake if United did not agree. Regardless of the budget, the team needs at least one goalkeeper who can challenge Onana. Many United supporters even want a replacement for him, believing current No.2 goalkeeper Altay Baindir is more reliable than Onana.
