Manchester United sign Mbeumo or kill two birds with one stone! Newcastle were forced to poach Elanga, and the Red Devils are expected to take in 7 million

Manchester United are in the process of acquiring Brentford for 25-year-old Cameroonian winger Mbeumo, and interestingly, the deal could be a 'double win' that could help the club receive another transfer fee from Anthony Elanga, who was sold two years ago. The 23-year-old Swedish winger was sold to Nottingham Forest with a secondary transfer sharing clause in his contract, while Newcastle United, who had abandoned Mbeumo to bring in Mbeumo, were considering bringing in Anthony Elanga instead.

Anthony Elanga, who joined Nottingham Forest from Manchester United in 2023 for a fee of just £15 million, was not appreciated by then-Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag and opted to sell him. However, at the City Stadium, Elanga was in excellent form, scoring six goals in the Premier League, but with as many as 11 assists, second only to Liverpool's Salah and one more than Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes! Elanga plays as a right winger like Mbeumo, but he is a right-footed right winger, unlike the latter, who cuts inside with his left foot.

Elanga's impressive performance helped Nottingham Forest qualify for Europe for the first time since the 1994/95 season. However, that can't stop their players from being poached by the giants, with Anthony Elanga being a long-cherished target for Champions League side Newcastle. Because Mbeumo chose Manchester United, who was willing to pay £200,000 a week, the 'Magpies' could only consider other candidates, so they contacted Elanga's agent again.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle approached Elanga's team on Friday to ask if he could make a move. The potential deal is still in its early stages, but it is certain that Eddie Howe is interested in Elanga, having tried to bring in late last summer window but the £35million offer was rejected. If Elanga agrees to join fellow Swedish Isak, Newcastle could pay £50 million to bring him in. Nottingham Forest can make a big deal as they have three years left on Elanga's contract, but Manchester United can also get a piece of the action.

Anthony Elanga joined Manchester United at the age of 12 and as a result, the Reds will first receive a share of the Academy. In addition, when United sold him to Forest, they placed a 20% secondary transfer sharing clause. This means that once Forest sells Elanga, the Red Devils can take a 20% share of the profits.

If Newcastle bring in Elanga for £50 million, Manchester United will get £7 million. However, Elanga's transfer fee may not end up being so high, with the Manchester Evening News predicting that the Red Devils could get between £3 million and £6 million in the deal.

Although this amount is not high, it is enough to help United bring in some of the funds for Mbeumo, and Brentford are asking for a transfer fee of around £65 million, which is almost £10 million higher than United's initial offer of £55 million, and Elanga's share could make up the difference.

Manchester United are finding that players they sell to other teams at lower prices may bring in higher revenues in a similar way. In addition to Anthony Elanga, veteran Red Devils player Álvaro Carreras Fernandes is sure to bring in an extra income for the club in the summer window, and he is discussing a £42million move to his parent club Real Madrid.

In addition, Mason Greenwood, the "Aoki ball king" sold by Manchester United to Marseille, will also enrich Ruben Amorim's transfer budget once he transfers. When he joined Marseille, his transfer contract provided for a 50 per cent share of the second transfer, although at the end of the season the Ligue 1 runners-up activated a special clause that reduced the share to 40 per cent.

In the past, United's highest earning from a secondary transfer of an Academy player came from England international Michael Keane, who joined Everton from Burnley for £30 million and United sat for £7 million.
