Atletico Madrid finalized the signing of 23-year-old midfielder Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis on Wednesday for an estimated fee of 25 million euros.
"Our club and Real Betis have come to an agreement for the midfielder's transfer... who will don the red and white colors for the next five seasons," Atletico stated in a release.
Born in New Jersey, Cardoso is a US international of Brazilian heritage and holds an Italian passport, enabling him to be registered as an EU player.
On Tuesday, Atletico confirmed the signing of 24-year-old Argentine forward Thiago Almada from the Brazilian club Botafogo.
Diego Simeone's team also added playmaker Alex Baena from Villarreal earlier this summer and Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta as they work on revitalizing their squad after a lackluster 2024-2025 season, finishing without any trophies.
