Wayne Hennessey, the all-time leading goalkeeper for Wales, has retired at 38 after making 109 appearances for his national team, as confirmed by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) on Wednesday.
Hennessey made over 100 league appearances each for Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace, reaching the FA Cup final in 2016 with the latter. He was with Nottingham Forest last season but did not participate in any matches.
The player from Bangor was part of the Wales team that made it to the semi-finals of the Euros in 2016 and also played in the 2022 World Cup. His last appearance for Wales was in November 2023 during a friendly against Gibraltar.
“I have made the decision to end my playing career, and I reflect on my past with gratitude while looking ahead with hope as I embark on the next chapter of my football journey," Hennessey stated in a press release.
