Football icon Michel Platini interrupted a burglar at his villa in the southern region of France on Friday, a source connected to the police inquiry informed AFP.
Platini, 70, heard a sound in the garden of the property in Cassis early in the morning and confronted a man wearing a black mask, who escaped with several trophies and medals, the source stated.
Platini represented France and secured the Ballon d'Or award for the world's best player three consecutive years from 1983 to 1985.
He guided France to the semi-finals in the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.
He served as UEFA president from 2007 to 2016 and later became involved in a financial scandal with then-FIFA president Sepp Blatter, but was cleared of charges in March this year.
