France's head coach Laurent Bonadei has not placed significant emphasis on penalty kicks prior to his team's quarter-final match against Germany at EURO 2025 on Saturday, despite the dramatic shootout between England and Sweden on Thursday.

Defending champions England advanced to the semi-finals after narrowly defeating Sweden in a chaotic shootout.

"We focused extensively on (penalties) before the 2023 World Cup in a specific manner, and this time, I chose not to burden them too much with it, as we are uncertain about how it will unfold," Bonadei informed reporters.

"Last night, we witnessed players who were truly under pressure. Yes, you can simulate pressure during training, but it doesn't compare to the actual game. When it's game time, when they are fatigued, and when the crowd is applying pressure, it can be entirely different.

"The players practice individually at their own pace at the end of each session; sometimes they attempt two, three, four, or five penalties, but it's extremely challenging to replicate the game's context."

France scored 11 goals from nine different players in their three group matches, establishing themselves as one of the top attacking teams at Euro 2025.

France's captain and defender Griedge Mbock is expected to return against Germany after being out for a month due to a calf injury, and she stated that she is not anxious about starting her European campaign in what promises to be a fiercely contested quarter-final.

"I'm not afraid. I have confidence in my teammates, and I know that even though I haven't played for a month, my teammates will support me and cover any gaps in my pace," she remarked.

"We are a team, and I'm fortunate to be part of this team sport where I can rely on my teammates. This is a significant advantage. No, I'm not really afraid."
