Goals from Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Folashade Ijamilusi powered the Super Falcons to a decisive victory over the Copper Queens at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
The nine-time African champions entered the match with a strong head-to-head record, but the presence of the reigning African Player of the Year, Barbra Banda, posed a potential threat to Nigeria's aspirations.
However, it was Justine Madugu’s team that took control just two minutes in, as defender Osinachi Ohale elevated above her opponents to head in Esther Okoronkwo’s precisely placed free-kick, leaving goalkeeper Petronella Musole with no opportunity to respond.
Okoronkwo increased the Super Falcons’ advantage in the 33rd minute, completing a quick attacking sequence with an accurate shot into the bottom corner, leaving the Copper Queens’ goalkeeper with no chance.
In a first half filled with goals, Nora Hauptle’s team conceded a third when Ihezuo took advantage of a loose ball in the box, calmly finishing with a left-footed shot that nearly confirmed the match.
Nigeria’s dominance continued into the 68th minute, with Demehin pushing the lead to 4-0. Substitute Folashade Ijamilusi then capped off the rout in the final moments, finishing off a brilliant assist from Rasheedat Ajibade.
With this victory, the West Africans maintained their quest for a record-extending 10th African title. They will face the winner of the South Africa vs Senegal match for a place in the final.
