Two-time Ballon d'Or recipient Bonmati was awarded player of the match in Bern during her second start of the tournament after recovering from a case of viral meningitis that briefly jeopardized her participation in the Euros.
"Yes, I felt 100% physically today. It was an intense 90 minutes, which is what I'm accustomed to, so I'm pleased," Bonmati shared with reporters.
"I wasn't sure if the meningitis would pose a problem throughout the tournament; I worked diligently to be prepared as soon as possible, and now I've reaped the rewards."
Bonmati provided the assist from which Athenea del Castillo broke through the determined Swiss defense in the 66th minute at Wankdorf Stadium and played a vital role in Spain's methodical possession strategy.
"I aimed to enjoy myself and feel like a football player, confident and full of energy. I experienced something beyond my control, but I overcame it and take pride in turning it around."
