After spending seven years at F.C. Copenhagen, where he participated in 62 first-team matches and netted 8 goals, Victor Froholdt today bids farewell as he embarks on the next chapter of his career at FC Porto.
FC Copenhagen sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen expresses regret over saying goodbye to the gifted 19-year-old central midfielder.
"We are very keen on maintaining continuity within the squad, and Victor was a vital part of it, so I would have preferred to see him stay with us longer."
"However, during the negotiation process, it became evident that Victor desired a change of club, and given that we are also receiving a historically high transfer fee, I made the decision to accept it."
"The timing is certainly unfortunate, considering we have just begun the Danish Superliga and our European qualifiers. Nevertheless, transfer income is a crucial aspect of our strategy and our aim to operate a sustainable football business. When the amount reaches such heights, I feel compelled to act in a financially responsible manner."
FCK is guaranteed €20 million in the transaction, with an additional two million linked to performance-related bonuses. Additionally, it has been confirmed that FC Copenhagen has secured a resale clause of ten percent.
Nineteen-year-old Victor Froholdt joined FC Copenhagen Talent at the age of 12 from Vallensbaek IF. Since then, he has consistently improved through the youth system, making his first-team debut in autumn 2023 and being selected for the Danish national team in the spring.
"It is heartbreaking to leave the place that has been my home for so many years, and it is not an easy choice," says Victor Froholdt.
"But I am excited to take the next step in Europe, and I feel prepared and well-equipped. This is largely due to the football education I received from FC Copenhagen, and I owe a great deal to the club and FC Copenhagen Talent."
