Barcelona has called off their pre-season friendly match against Vissel Kobe in Japan, pointing to contractual violations by the promoter, while their two planned friendlies in South Korea are also at risk of being suspended, according to the club.

The LaLiga champions were set to face the Japanese team Vissel Kobe on Sunday, and to compete against South Korea's FC Seoul on July 31st and Daegu FC on August 4th.

"Barcelona has announced that it has been forced to suspend its participation in the match scheduled for next Sunday in Japan due to significant contractual breaches by the promoter," the club stated on Wednesday.

"However, the club will consider adjusting the summer tour in South Korea," it added, "if specific conditions are fulfilled by the promoter.

"If these conditions are satisfied, then the club will proceed to South Korea in the upcoming days. Barcelona regrets this situation and the repercussions it will have on the numerous Barca supporters in Japan."

In a statement released on Thursday, Vissel Kobe expressed their apologies to fans.

"We sincerely apologize for any distress this may cause to the many fans and stakeholders who were looking forward to this match," the J1 League club stated.

"Our club is collaborating with relevant parties to gather necessary information and implement appropriate measures."

Barcelona did not specify the promoter in its statement, but when the tour was initially announced, it had identified them as the YASUDA Group.

Reuters has reached out to YASUDA for comments.

The promoter for matches in South Korea, D-DRIVE, stated on Thursday that they aim to ensure the remainder of the tour is successful.

"To our fans in Korea: please be assured — D-DRIVE remains fully dedicated to making the rest of the tour a success. We will continue to do our utmost to deliver memorable matches," D-DRIVE CEO Seul Ham mentioned in a statement.
