A late equalizer ensured a remarkable 1-1 draw for Faroese minnows HB Torshavn as they faced Brondby on their home turf during the first leg of their second round match in the Conference League qualification.

Throughout the match, it otherwise appeared that Brondby would return to Denmark with a vital victory in hand. On the artificial pitch in the Faroese capital, the visitors controlled the game for the entire 90 minutes but struggled to convert their dominance into crucial goals.

Striker Filip Bundgaard has faced challenges in securing playing time since joining Brondby, but following the departures of Mathias Kvistgaarden and Yuito Susuki, Bundgaard has taken the opportunity to shine.

On Sunday, he netted twice against Silkeborg, and on Thursday evening, he also scored to give the Danes the lead.

After an hour of play,Nicolai Vallys split the Torshavn defense with a deep pass, allowing Clement Bischoff to easily find the advancing Bundgaard, who had a simple task of tapping the ball into the open net.

Up until that moment, Brondby had been guilty of squandering significant opportunities in front of goal.

A minute after the break, everything was set for the new full-back Oliver Villadsen to score his first goal in a Brondby shirt, but in an astonishing turn of events, he managed to send the ball over the bar from close range after a perfect cross from the left.

Just a minute later, Bundgaard received a perfect cross in front of goal, but with the goal at his mercy, his powerful header went over the bar.

Despite breaking the deadlock, Brondby failed to capitalize on their momentum.

Instead, the home team began to create a series of dangerous chances and were unfortunate to see Emil Pedersen's shot hit the woodwork.

It still seemed likely that a narrow Danish victory was on the cards until Jákup Thomsen beat Brondby goalkeeper Patrick Pentz with a shot from the edge of the box just before the final whistle.

Despite this setback, the Danish favorites still hold strong prospects of securing their place in the third round in the return leg at home next Thursday.

If successful, Brondby will face the winner of the matchup between Albanian team KF Vllaznia and Iceland's Vikingur Reykjavik in the third round. The Albanians won the first leg at home on Thursday with a score of 2-1.
