ESPN stated on Thursday that Ajax values Jorrel Hato's ambition to depart, yet also aims to retain the young defender as the Amsterdam club embarks on their first UEFA Champions League season since 2022.
An initial bid from Chelsea, speculated to be €40 million, as the Blues align with the precedent set by former Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, who was signed by Arsenal for that precise amount, was rejected by Ajax, who are said to seek between €55 and €60 million for Hato.
Hato himself has already reached a personal agreement with Chelsea. Hato's agent, Humphry Nijman, has confirmed Chelsea is in discussions with Ajax regarding a transfer for the young player.
The 19-year-old Hato made his debut for Ajax in 2023 at the age of 16 and became the youngest player in the club's history to achieve 100 appearances.
Hato is contracted to Ajax until the summer of 2028.
