Former Man United coach Erik ten Hag has maintained that Cristiano Ronaldo was 'never the issue' during his tenure at the club while subtly criticizing the organization.
Ten Hag and Ronaldo, 40, reportedly had a tumultuous relationship during their time at Old Trafford, which led to the Portuguese forward being transferred to Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo has continued to find the net in Saudi Arabia, recently scoring a hat-trick in their 4-0 friendly victory over Rio Ave.
Speaking after their 2-0 friendly loss to Chelsea, now Bayer Leverkusen manager Ten Hag unexpectedly supported his former player.
When asked if Ronaldo was "still the issue" after his hat-trick, Ten Hag responded: "For me, it's not an issue; he was never the issue. I believe that's in the past, it is what occurred, and afterward we secured two trophies at Manchester United, and I wish him all the best moving forward."
