Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer has officially joined Championship side West Bromwich Albion on loan for a season, with no buyout option. The 21-year-old English midfielder reportedly had over ten loan options, but West Brom was ultimately selected, possibly due to their previous players Darren Fletcher and Evans from the Red Devils.
West Brom has been away from the Premier League for five seasons and hopes to return to the top league. Collyer will wear the number 13 jersey for the "Baggies," explaining, "I spoke with coach Ryan Mason, and I had a very good first impression of him. For me, West Brom is the right place and the right environment; I hope to participate in as many matches as possible. This is a great opportunity for me to help the team and improve my level, and I am very excited about it."
Collyer is a favored player of former Manchester United manager Ten Hag. Sources reveal that his running data in training is impressive, second only to captain Bruno Fernandes. Amorim has also praised Collyer's legs and attitude; however, there is no position for him in the team. Even though the club has given up on Carlos Baleba's transfer, with B Fee moving back, he will surely occupy a starting position in the 343 midfield setup. The Red Devils also have Casemiro and Ugarte, and Mason Mount may also shift positions, leaving Collyer with slim chances.
On Saturday, Collyer is expected to make his debut for West Brom in the Championship match against Wrexham. Collyer's contract with Manchester United runs until the summer of 2027, with an option for a one-year extension; however, whether he still has a place in the future will depend on his performance in the second-tier league.
Sancho is also considering offers to leave Manchester United on loan. Roma's £20 million loan-to-buy offer has been accepted at the club level, but it still requires the player's approval to proceed. The Serie A team's offer reportedly includes a £2 million loan fee plus an £18 million mandatory buyout clause, which will activate if certain easily achievable conditions are met.
Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated, "Manchester United is prepared to accept Roma's £20 million offer, but is waiting for Sancho's decision. Roma is also waiting for Sancho to greenlight the transfer. Since the beginning of this week, Sancho has been open to negotiations but is still considering personal terms."
Romano confirmed that Sancho's agent team is in direct discussions with Roma regarding salary issues. It is reported that he is not entirely satisfied with the offer from the "Giallorossi." Rumors suggest that Sancho declined a five-year contract worth £7.5 million annually (nearly €9 million) including bonuses, and Roma has yet to decide whether to raise the salary level.
Sancho's weekly salary at Manchester United is £250,000, totaling £12.5 million per year, which is significantly higher than the figure offered by Roma. The 25-year-old English winger must either accept a pay cut or Manchester United may need to compensate him for part of the income difference for the upcoming season.
There is also a challenging aspect to the transfer, as Roma's plan is to loan first and buy later, while Sancho's current contract only has one year left. This means that to realize the buyout next year, Manchester United must activate the one-year extension clause in his contract after January, which poses a risk. If Sancho ultimately fails to make a permanent transfer to Italy, similar to being returned by Chelsea, Manchester United would have to bear his salary for 12 months.
Although the conditions for Roma to buy Sancho are said to be straightforward, even the simplest terms might not be achievable. For instance, if the player suffers an unexpected injury during the season, the buyout conditions cannot be activated.
