Prior to the match, experts predicted this would be a highly anticipated rematch between the two teams. Myanmar had previously beaten U23 Australia in the group stage, but coach Joe Palatsides' squad showed remarkable improvement, demonstrating ball control, varied attacks, and solid defense. Their semi-final win over host Vietnam further boosted the team's confidence.

Meanwhile, Myanmar, under Japanese coach Uki Tetsuro, was praised for their disciplined defense and sharp counterattacks. Striker Win Theingi Tun, with seven goals, was the team's biggest hope in attack. Before the final, coach Uki emphasized: "Team victory is more important than any individual," while player Khin Marlar Tun expressed her determination to win the trophy and inspire Myanmar women's football.

As the match began, both teams played cautiously and the game was closely contested. Myanmar focused on layered defense and did not hesitate to commit fouls to disrupt Australia's central attacks. Despite dominating possession and creating many chances, Palatsides’ players were unable to break through, ending the first half at 0-0.

In the second half, the tense struggle continued. With superior fitness, Australia gradually increased the pressure. In the 66th minute, after a combination on the right wing, Aideen Keane delivered a precise cross for Holly Furphy to score the opening goal. This was the only goal of the match, securing a 1-0 win for U23 Australia.

With this result, U23 Australia officially claimed the 2025 AFF Women's Cup, while Myanmar finished as impressive runners-up.
