The US Open has kicked off, with the Chinese team achieving two wins and one loss on the first day!

The 2025 Cincinnati event has wrapped up, with Alcaraz and Swiatek taking home the coveted singles crowns. The men's final between Alcaraz and Sinner ended prematurely when the Italian, down 0-5 in the first set, was forced to retire due to health issues. This handed Alcaraz his first Cincinnati title and the eighth Masters championship of his career.

Although Swiatek defeated Paolini 2-0 in the women's final, Paolini did have her chances, leading 3-0 in the first set before Swiatek regained her composure and secured victory. Paolini has now lost all six encounters against Swiatek.

With her Cincinnati triumph, Swiatek has climbed back to world No. 2, overtaking Gauff to secure the second seed at this year's US Open (Cincinnati is also Swiatek's 11th career WTA1000 title).

As soon as Cincinnati ended, the qualifying rounds for the 2025 US Open began in full swing. Three mainland Chinese players—Wang Xiyu, Gao Xinyu, and Sun Fajing—have already completed their first-round matches in the qualifiers.

As a former US Open junior girls' champion, Wang Xiyu has plenty of experience at Flushing Meadows. Facing Canadian player Branstine in the opening round, Wang came from behind after losing the first set 3-6, winning the next two sets to claim a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory. The match lasted about two hours in total.

After earning 20 valuable ranking points and a $41,800 prize, Wang Xiyu will next face Croatian veteran Martic. According to the qualifying draw, Wang will face some challenges if she hopes to break through the US Open qualifiers this year.

In contrast to Wang Xiyu's hard-fought comeback, Gao Xinyu drew the No. 11 seed Marcinko in her opening match of the women's singles qualifiers. After falling in the first round of US Open qualifying for two consecutive years, Gao's Grand Slam results this year include reaching the second round of the Australian Open qualifiers, missing the French Open due to visa issues, and first-round exits at both Wimbledon and the US Open qualifiers.

On the men's side, Sun Fajing was also among the first to compete. Facing a daunting situation at 3-6, 2-5 down, he managed to turn things around. After taking a 4-1 lead in the deciding set, his opponent Tiffin was forced to retire due to cramps, allowing Sun to secure 8 ranking points, a $41,800 prize, and his first-ever Grand Slam main draw victory.

In addition to these three players, Zhang Shuai, Wei Sijia, and Wu Yibing are also set to compete in the US Open singles qualifiers. We look forward to more good news from Chinese players!(Source: Tennis Home Author: Barbie)
