Zheng Qinwen is absent as the top eight seeds for US Open singles are finalized.

The 2025 US Open is now underway, and six Chinese mainland players have delivered a strong performance in the singles qualifiers, securing five victories and one defeat. Wang Xiyu, Sun Fajing, and Gao Xingyu competed on the opening day, with Gao Xingyu falling to Mashinko [11] and the other two moving on to the next round.

On the second day, [9] Zhang Shuai, Wei Sijia, and Wu Yibing took to the court. Zhang Shuai, seeded ninth in the qualifiers, made a dramatic comeback from 1-5 down in the first set to win six consecutive games, ultimately defeating Stoyana 7-5, 6-3. She earned 20 ranking points and a prize of $41,800, and will face Weidemannova next.

Wei Sijia finally claimed a victory! Facing Cengiz, whose overall strength was average, she needed only 54 minutes to win decisively 6-2, 6-2, not only advancing to the second round but also ending a four-match losing streak. Next, she will compete with 23rd seed Romero for a place in the final qualifying round.

Wu Yibing also showed great form in his first-round match against 17th seed Fekovic, winning 6-3, 6-3. He did not face a single break point and achieved an impressive 88% first-serve win rate, moving his live world ranking up to 176th.

While singles qualifying matches continue at full pace, the US Open mixed doubles has already produced its semifinal lineup. In the top half, [1] Pegula/Draper will play [3] Ruud/Swiatek, while the bottom half features [A] Collins/Harrison versus [W] Errani/Vavassori. As defending champions, Errani and her partner have defeated [2] Rybakina/Fritz and Muchova/Rublev on their way to securing a valuable semifinal spot.

After the match, Errani stated she was fighting for all doubles players: "We are competing for all the doubles players who are unable to participate, and we will give it our all."

Of course, the singles championship remains the main focus for tennis fans. The top eight seeds for both men’s and women’s singles have now been set. The men’s seeds are: Sinner, Alcaraz, Zverev, Fritz, Draper, Shelton, Djokovic, and De Minaur.

For the women’s singles, the top eight seeds are: Sabalenka, Swiatek, Gauff, Pegula, Andreeva, Keys, Paolini, and Anisimova. Zheng Qinwen is absent from the list due to surgery and recovery, after reaching the quarterfinals last year at Flushing Meadows.
