Chinese tennis star Bu Yunchaokete keeps moving forward at the ATP 250 Winston-Salem Open. Following his second-round win over top seed and former world No. 3 Tsitsipas, he secured a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Argentina’s Navone in the third round, making this his fifth career appearance in a tour quarterfinal. He will compete with Van de Zandschulp from the Netherlands for a semifinal spot; Van de Zandschulp rallied to defeat 10th seed Baez 0-6, 6-1, 6-4.
In his post-match interview, Bu Yunchaokete discussed the key to his victory: “His serve wasn’t very aggressive, so I put as much pressure as possible on his service games. Winning three matches in a row has given me a lot of confidence. The temperature and humidity here are very high, which is a big challenge for physical endurance. I know my next opponent well—we’ve trained together for years. I hope to rest well today and give my best performance tomorrow.” The quarterfinal between Bu Yunchaokete and Van de Zandschulp is scheduled to start around 8:00 AM Beijing time on August 22.
