WTA Cleveland: Wang Yafan eliminated by Samsonova, Wang Xinyu's match postponed due to rain

During the second round of the WTA 250 Cleveland singles tournament, Wang Yafan from China lost to the top seed Samsonova with scores of 2-6/4-6, failing to reach the last eight. Second seed Wang Xinyu was level with Gibson at 1-6/6-2 when rain stopped the match; the rescheduled contest will take place at 23:00 Beijing time tonight. Should Wang Xinyu win, she will face the winner of the match between seventh seed Bolt and Grubnic, competing twice in one day.

The women's doubles quarterfinals saw second seeds Jiang Xinyu and Chan Hao-ching dominate the home team Bennett/Frey 6-0/6-3 to reach the semifinals, where they will face the Chinese duo Xu Yifan and Yang Zhaoxuan, who defeated third seeds Eikeri/Suiji Hozumi 6-4/6-3.
