On August 21 local time, the second round of the 2025 US Open men’s and women’s singles qualifiers concluded. Chinese players Zhang Shuai, Wei Sijia, Wang Xiyu, and Wu Yibing successfully progressed to the final qualifying round, while Sun Fajing was defeated 2-6, 2-6 by South African star L. Harris and was eliminated.

Women’s singles 9th seed Zhang Shuai swept Czech player Widmannova 6-4, 6-0, while Wei Sijia came back from a set down to defeat 23rd seed Romero Gormaz 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. These two Chinese players will face each other in the final qualifying round, staging a “Chinese Derby” and securing at least one main draw spot for the Chinese contingent in advance.
Wang Xiyu defeated Croatian star Martic 7-5, 6-4 and will face Charayeva in the final round. Wu Yibing beat Frenchman Van Assche 6-3, 6-3 and will compete against Swiss player Kym for a place in the main draw.
Additionally, Hong Kong’s Huang Zelin overturned 16th seed Gigant 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 and will aim to reach the Grand Slam singles main draw for the first time (final round opponent: B. Harris).
