Seeded 9th in the qualifiers, Zhang Shuai defeated Wei Sijia 6-1, 6-3 in a “China Derby,” marking her 49th appearance in a Grand Slam singles main draw. In the first round, she will face the 16th seed, Swiss star Belinda Bencic. The two have only met once before at a 2013 ITF clay court event, where Zhang Shuai won in straight sets.
