WTA Monterrey: Schneider defeats Alexandrova to claim her first title of the season

On August 23, 2025, the WTA 500 Monterrey tournament concluded its final day. The tournament’s third seed Schneider overcame compatriot and second seed Alexandrova with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win her first championship of the season and the fifth title of her career.

Schneider’s path to the title was challenging, frequently battling opponents in tiebreaks and three-set matches. In the quarterfinals, she saved five match points before staging a comeback victory. In the final, Schneider took the first set 6-3, then withstood a strong comeback from Alexandrova in the next two sets, ultimately securing a narrow win thanks to an early break in the deciding set. Next, Schneider will head to New York to compete in the Flushing Meadows tournament, where she will face Sigmund in the opening round.

Second Round: Defeated Rashimova 7-6(3), 6-1

Quarterfinals: Defeated Mertens [5] 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4)

Semifinals: Defeated Parks 6-3, 7-6(8)

Final: Defeated Alexandrova [2] 6-3, 4-6, 6-4

In the doubles event, fourth seeds Buksha and Melichar swept third seeds Guo Hanyu and Panova 6-2, 6-0, marking the latter pair’s second consecutive runner-up finish on the tour.
