Djokovic began the match with great intensity, demonstrating clear superiority in the opening set. He achieved a 60% first serve rate, winning 77% of those points (43 out of 56), and made only 3 unforced errors, swiftly closing the first set 6-1 in just 25 minutes.

The second set saw Learner Tien fight back. The young American leveraged the home advantage and the enthusiastic crowd support to create a balanced battle. Tien broke Djokovic’s serve early in the set, but Djokovic quickly responded by breaking back to level the score.

The match went into a tiebreak, where Djokovic displayed resilience with accurate shots and capitalized on Tien’s errors, winning 7-3 after the set was tied at 5-5. Djokovic committed 15 unforced errors in this set, showing signs of fatigue at 38 years old, but his ability to adjust tactics helped him withstand the pressure.

In the third set, Tien appeared to lose his sharpness after the second set tiebreak loss. Djokovic, despite dealing with a right big toe issue, remained steady. He continually pressured Tien’s serve, breaking twice to lead 4-1.

The Vietnamese-American saved only 3 out of 9 break points and made numerous errors (36 in total), while Djokovic capitalized on 6 of 9 break point opportunities. With impressive return point percentages (45% on first serve and 67% on second serve), Djokovic easily closed out the match 6-2.

In this match, Djokovic covered a total of 2396 meters, slightly less than Tien’s 2473 meters, but his efficiency in crucial points gave him the advantage over the younger player. This victory advances Djokovic to the second round, continuing his quest for a 25th Grand Slam title, while Tien, despite the defeat, made a mark with his courageous fighting spirit.
