Wang Xinyu is the only Chinese mainland player to advance past the first round in singles. In the second round, she will face Russian star Aleksandrova, who defeated Latvian Sevastova 6-4, 6-1. In their head-to-head, Wang leads 2-1.

Other matches: Former champion and 2nd seed Swiatek cruised past Colombian Arango 6-1, 6-2 for a strong start; former champion and 3rd seed Gauff battled for nearly three hours to beat Australian Tomljanovic 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-5, advancing with difficulty; two-time champion and 23rd seed Osaka defeated Belgian Minnen 6-3, 6-4, also moving past the first round successfully.
