After the second round, Djokovic's draw looked increasingly favorable.

In the 3/4 section led by Fritz and Djokovic, Djokovic initially had a challenging draw. He had Lener Chen, Korda, and Rune on his side, while Fritz faced Mensek and Fonseca. These players were potential dangerous opponents for both Djokovic and Fritz.

But after the second round, the draw's complexion shifted noticeably.

Djokovic confronted Lener Chen head-on in the first round, winning 3-0 against the American young talent born in 2005. Interestingly, when Djokovic first played the US Open, Lener Chen hadn't even been born yet.

Korda was also eliminated in the first round, losing to Norrie. In the second round, Norrie defeated Komeisana as well. This sets up a third-round match between Djokovic and Norrie, with their head-to-head record standing at 6-0. It remains to be seen if Norrie can break into the “ten consecutive losses to Djokovic” club.

Meanwhile, 35-year-old German veteran Struff caused an upset by defeating the 11th seed Rune, who was originally a potential fourth-round opponent for Djokovic.

On Fritz’s side, the 16th seed Mensek was knocked out after a five-set battle where three sets went to tiebreaks. Ultimately, Mensek lost the deciding set tiebreak 7-10 to French qualifierHugo Blanchet, who is ranked only 184th in the world!

Another qualifier,Jerome Kym, a 22-year-old Swiss player ranked 175th, also won a five-set match, narrowly defeating the 30th seed Nakajima 10-8 in the final set tiebreak.

Fortunately, Fritz performed steadily, beating South African qualifier Harris 3-1. Harris has some pedigree, having reached a ranking of 31 in 2021, but frequent injuries have since stalled his progress.

After the challenges of the first two rounds, the current 3/4 draw looks like this:

Clearly, both Djokovic and Fritz face significantly less pressure to advance than before.

In the third round, Djokovic will face Norrie, with a head-to-head of 6-0. We look forward to Djokovic maintaining his strong form. Fritz will meet Jerome Kym, which will be their first encounter.

If Jerome Kym manages to beat Fritz, it would prove his potential as a dark horse and raise hopes that he could carry the torch for Swiss men’s tennis, following in Federer’s footsteps.
