The defending champion and top seed Sabalenka faced the 4th seed Pegula, who is playing on home soil, in a repeat of last year’s final. In the first set, Sabalenka broke serve to lead 4-2 but then faltered as Pegula won four consecutive games to take the set 6-4. In the second set, Sabalenka once again broke first to gain the advantage and held on to level the match at 6-3.

In the deciding set, Sabalenka broke early and despite Pegula creating several break points in return games, she couldn’t convert any. Sabalenka came back from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. This marked Sabalenka’s 99th Grand Slam singles main draw victory, her third consecutive US Open final appearance, and her sixth straight hard-court Grand Slam final.

After the match, Sabalenka said: “It was an extremely tough battle. Jessica (Pegula) played brilliantly as always, and I had to give my all to win. I’m very happy to reach the final again and hope to be the last one standing. Defending the title would mean a lot to me. On Saturday, I will give everything, fighting for every point as if it were the last.”

The 8th seed Anisimova featured in the headline match against Naomi Osaka. In the first set, Osaka broke serve three times to take the lead, but Anisimova fought back each time. The set went to a tiebreak, where Osaka edged ahead to win 7-4. In the second set, Anisimova took the lead first, and although Osaka pushed the set to another tiebreak, Anisimova won it 7-3 to even the match.

In the deciding set, Osaka took a medical timeout. Anisimova broke serve early and extended her lead to 5-3. During Anisimova’s service game for the match, Osaka saved match points from 15-40 down and earned two break points, but ultimately Anisimova held serve to clinch a 6-7(4), 7-6(3), 6-3 comeback victory, reaching her first US Open women’s singles final.

With this result, the US Open women’s singles final lineup is set: Sabalenka will face Anisimova on September 7th Beijing time. In their head-to-head record, Anisimova leads 6-3. This season, they met twice: Sabalenka won in straight sets at the French Open, while Anisimova triumphed in a three-set thriller in the Wimbledon semifinals.
