Day 13 of the 2025 US Open: Three consecutive Grand Slam finals, Sinner and Alcaraz vie for world No.1

On September 6th, Beijing time, the 13th day of the 2025 US Open concluded. The men's singles final lineup was confirmed, with top two seeds Sinner and Alcaraz meeting in the final; the Chinese duo Li Xiaohui and Wang Ziying claimed the wheelchair women's doubles title; Dabrowski and Lottief won the women's doubles championship.

In the highly anticipated men's singles semifinal opener, Alcaraz dominated Djokovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-2, reaching his second US Open singles final and seventh Grand Slam final overall. This marked Alcaraz’s first hard-court victory over the Serbian star, improving his head-to-head against Djokovic to 4-5. The Spaniard advanced to the final without dropping a set, aiming to become the first player in tournament history to win the men's singles title without losing a set.

Facing Alcaraz’s powerful offense, Djokovic showed signs of fatigue. Although he led 3-0 in the second set, he struggled to fend off his opponent’s comeback. In the third set, Djokovic exhibited physical exhaustion, requesting a medical timeout early due to shoulder discomfort, which significantly affected his serving. For 38-year-old Djokovic, reaching the semifinals in all four Grand Slams this season remains impressive, but after exiting the US Open semifinals, he has now gone two consecutive years without a Grand Slam title.

The second men's singles semifinal took place in the evening session. Although Sinner was favored before the match, his opponent Aliassime showed strong determination and form. Sinner dropped a set for the second time at this US Open but eventually won in four sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, extending his hard-court Grand Slam winning streak to 27 matches and becoming the youngest male player in the Open Era to reach four Grand Slam finals in a single season.

Sinner is now just one step away from defending his US Open title, set to face Alcaraz again in the final. This marks the third consecutive Grand Slam final meeting between these "post-2000 twins." Alcaraz saved three championship points to win the French Open earlier this year, while Sinner triumphed at Wimbledon. They will meet once more in the last Grand Slam final of the year, showcasing one of the most anticipated rivalries in men's tennis today. The winner will claim the world No.1 ranking in next week’s updated standings.

The Chinese pair Li Xiaohui and Wang Ziying overcame a 1-5 deficit in the second set to defeat Zhu Zhenzhen and De Groot 6-4, 7-6(4), capturing the wheelchair women's doubles title. This victory marks their third major title and one runner-up finish in wheelchair women's doubles this year. Li Xiaohui also won her wheelchair singles semifinal and will compete tomorrow for another Grand Slam title. Young Chinese player Zhang Rui’en was narrowly defeated in the girls’ doubles junior semifinal, missing out on the final.

Third seeds Dabrowski and Lottief defeated top seeds Siniakova and Townsend 6-4, 6-4 to reclaim the US Open women's doubles title after two years. This is their second Grand Slam championship as a team.
