US Open Final: Sinner and Alcaraz Face Off in a Clash of Titans, Winner Takes All

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are set to compete in the US Open final on Sunday, their third straight Grand Slam final encounter. The winner will secure their second US Open championship and become the ATP world No. 1 in the upcoming week.

Sinner and Alcaraz have won the last seven Grand Slam titles between them and will make history in New York as the first players in the Open Era to contest three Grand Slam finals in a single season. Unlike their previous final battles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon,at 2 a.m. Beijing time on Monday, their match on Arthur Ashe Stadium will be for a "double prize" — the winner takes all.

Whoever triumphs in New York will hold the top spot in the PIF ATP rankings on Monday. Sinner has been No. 1 for 65 consecutive weeks, while Alcaraz is aiming to reclaim the world No. 1 position.

The rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz has become one of the most captivating in modern sports. It first came into the spotlight three years ago in New York — during the 2022 US Open quarterfinals, where Alcaraz saved match points in an epic five-set battle to win his first Grand Slam title.

Since then, every meeting between the two has generated huge excitement and anticipation, with both players consistently delivering thrilling performances. However, before this year's French Open, they had never met in a Grand Slam final. Now, they are about to face off in a Grand Slam final for the third consecutive time.

In their ATP head-to-head, Alcaraz leads 9-5 entering Sunday’s final. This will be their fifth meeting in 2025 — all in finals. Alcaraz won titles in Rome, the French Open (coming back from two sets down and saving three match points), and Cincinnati (where Sinner retired due to injury), while Sinner claimed victory at Wimbledon.

Both players have been dominant over the past two weeks at the US Open. Top seed Sinner boasts a 27-match winning streak on hard courts at Grand Slams, dropping only two sets in six matches; second seed Alcaraz has yet to lose a set and decisively defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in the semifinals.

If Sinner wins Sunday’s final, he will join the elite group of male players who have won three Grand Slam singles titles in a single season.

Do you think Sinner can join this list?

Sinner is a baseline player known for his precision and aims to seize an early advantage in the return games during Sunday’s final. When asked about his opponent’s strengths, he specifically highlighted Alcaraz’s serve. So far, Alcaraz has lost only two service games in six matches in New York and faced just nine break points in total.

Sinner said, “His serve has improved a lot. I can feel his serve is faster now, and his first-serve percentage remains very high, with much greater consistency — for example, where there used to be more fluctuations, now it’s very steady.”

The 24-year-old Sinner holds four Grand Slam titles, while 22-year-old Alcaraz has won five. Fans have grown accustomed to witnessing the surprises these two stars bring. According to the current ATP official website poll, Alcaraz leads with 58% to Sinner’s 42% in predicting the match outcome.
