For the third consecutive Grand Slam final this season, the men’s singles title will be contested by Sinner and Alcaraz — the two players currently dominating the tennis world.

In their previous two encounters at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, the score stands at 1-1. Alcaraz won Roland Garros, while Sinner claimed victory at Wimbledon.

Those titles marked Alcaraz’s fifth Grand Slam and Sinner’s fourth.

In the semifinals, Alcaraz’s swift 3-0 win over Novak Djokovic contrasted with Sinner’s tougher 3-1 victory against Auger-Aliassime.

The "big 3" generation (Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic) has now yielded the spotlight to the "big 2," Alcaraz and Sinner. This marks the seventh time these two have turned finals into “dream matches,” including the Umag Open 2022, China Open 2024, Rome Masters, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and Cincinnati Masters (all in 2025).

Sinner and Alcaraz are meeting in their fifth consecutive final in tournaments where both compete. Alcaraz has won three of those finals (Rome, Roland Garros, Cincinnati), while Sinner triumphed at Wimbledon.

In 2024, the two split four Grand Slam titles evenly. This year, Sinner has won two and Alcaraz one. If Alcaraz wins this US Open, they will again share four Grand Slams each. Sinner and Alcaraz are creating a thrilling and intense “two-horse race” in the tennis world.

The rivalry between these young players began at the Paris Masters 2021 round of 32 and has rapidly escalated over four years, making Alcaraz and Sinner the fiercest rivals since Nadal and Djokovic. Most of their matches have been intense, closely contested, and felt like either player deserved to win.

On his path to the 2025 US Open final, Alcaraz has not lost a single set. This is the first time in his career that the Spanish player has reached a Grand Slam final without dropping a set. He has won 45 of his last 47 matches, demonstrating remarkable confidence and form.

Meanwhile, Sinner has lost only two sets. He has held the world No. 1 ranking for 65 consecutive weeks and is the defending champion. The Italian player has also won three recent Grand Slam titles on hard courts.

These two young players are clearly dominating the men’s singles tennis scene at this time.

Regarding head-to-head records, Alcaraz leads with 9 wins out of 14 matches against Sinner. Early in their careers, Sinner had the edge, but as both reached their peak, the Italian has won only 1 of the last 7 matches against the Spaniard.

The US Open 2025 men’s singles final between Alcaraz and Sinner will take place at 1 AM on September 8. This epic battle is nearly impossible to predict.

Sinner is the reigning US Open champion. If he fails to defend his title, he will lose the No. 1 world ranking to Alcaraz. Therefore, this US Open final is essentially a race for the top spot in the world rankings.
