“It’s very unfortunate that my arm got injured, forcing me to rest and miss the remainder of the 2025 season. This is tough for me as I had been gaining tremendous momentum and delivering some outstanding performances this season.”
“I am extremely grateful to everyone who supported me and stood by me throughout my journey. Now, I can’t wait to return to the court. I will give my all and look forward to seeing you again!”
Draper recently announced on his personal social media that after withdrawing from the second round of this year’s US Open due to an arm injury, he has decided to skip the entire remainder of the 2025 season. The left arm bone contusion rules him out of several events, including this year’s year-end championships.
According to media reports, Draper’s team is focusing on recovery with a relatively conservative treatment approach to minimize risks. For this young player born after 2000, his career still has a long way to go.
Born on December 22, 2001, in Sutton, UK, Draper is a left-handed two-handed backhand player who turned professional in 2018 after finishing as the runner-up in the boys’ singles at Wimbledon that year.
After several seasons of development, Draper received a wildcard to compete in the 2021 Queen’s Club tournament in his home country, where he defeated Sinner (his first tour-level win) and Bublik consecutively. He became the youngest British player since Murray in 2006 to reach the ATP tour quarterfinals, and also made his Grand Slam main draw debut at Wimbledon that year.
The 2022 season marked a breakthrough in Draper’s career. In January, he won his first title at the Italy Challenger in Forlì, then reached his first ATP tour semifinal at the Queen’s Club in June. In August, he advanced to his first Masters 1000 quarterfinal at the Rogers Cup by defeating players including Tsitsipas. That season, he broke into the top 50 in the world rankings for the first time.
In 2023, Draper struggled with injuries causing interruptions but still reached the fourth round at the US Open. His true rise began in the 2024 season.
With renowned coach Ferreira joining his team, Draper reached his first career final in Stuttgart and clinched the title by overcoming Berrettini in a tough comeback. This victory officially made him Britain’s top-ranked player, surpassing Norrie.
Also in 2024, Draper advanced to his first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open without dropping a set, defeating Zhang Zhizhen, Acosta, De Zandschulp, Makhach, and De Minaur, before losing to eventual champion Sinner in the semis.
In 2025, Draper won his first Masters title at Indian Wells. It’s worth noting that Draper was originally scheduled to team with Zheng Qinwen in mixed doubles at this year’s US Open, but Zheng withdrew due to postoperative recovery, so their mixed doubles pairing did not materialize.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
