Djokovic Thanks Chinese Fans on Social Media: The Best Support Worldwide

Djokovic described last night’s fourth-round match against Munar as “a tough day on the court.” During a grueling three-set battle, he took a medical timeout. Facing extreme heat, leg discomfort, and severe fatigue, Djokovic gave everything to secure his advancement.

In the high humidity, Djokovic’s body was pushed to its limits; he vomited multiple times at the sidelines and collapsed on the ground after losing the second set, then received medical attention. Throughout the 2-hour 41-minute match, he frequently used ice towels to cool down and relieve discomfort. Additionally, he requested medical timeouts several times due to leg pain but still showed his signature resilience.

His matches are always inspiring because he conveys a spirit on the court that deeply moves people with its powerful impact!

After a hard-fought 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Spanish player Jaume Munar, Djokovic shared on social media about the physical toll of the match. He wrote:

“A tough day on the court, physically very demanding. Fortunately, I have the best support in the world... I love Shanghai.”

Djokovic collapsed on the court immediately after losing the final point of the intense second set. It was a long rally where the 38-year-old veteran ran tirelessly but missed the last shot.

This was a match worth remembering, full of intensity from the start. Munar showed his best tennis with many exciting rallies. Midway through the first set, Djokovic experienced leg discomfort. After treatment on the sidelines, the atmosphere became tense.

The audience worried that Djokovic’s injury might worsen and prevent him from finishing the match, limiting his ability to perform fully. Under these circumstances, Munar maintained his professional spirit and stayed focused without distraction.

With this win, Djokovic set a new record. At 38 years and 4 months old, he became the oldest quarterfinalist in ATP 1000 Masters history, surpassing Roger Federer’s previous record of 38 years and 2 months. Federer set that record at the 2019 Shanghai Masters. If Djokovic wins a record fifth Shanghai title, he will surpass Federer’s total of 71 hard-court titles in the Open Era, taking sole possession of first place.

This marks Djokovic’s 11th time reaching the quarterfinals at the Shanghai tournament. Next, he will face Belgian player Zizou Bergs, marking their first meeting on the ATP Tour.

Currently, the No. 4 seed is the highest-ranked player remaining in the draw. Alcaraz withdrew before the tournament, Sinner pulled out due to a severe thigh cramp, and Zverev was eliminated in the third round.

Djokovic is pursuing his 41st ATP Masters title. He currently ranks third in the ATP Turin Finals qualification standings, with a season record of 34 wins and 10 losses.
